Instant God – He Has Answered
This is a true story of how God still deals with us today. If you chose to keep God in a box, neatly tied, comprehensible and manageable, when you open it, you’ll find He’s not there…your notions are. This story was shared by a good friend and I just couldn’t keep it to myself.
Every time I put God in a box, I’m left sweeping up the pieces of shredded cardboard.

Vacating the Vacation
Recently I found myself having contracted a urinary tract infection (UTI). Thinking it was under control by the medication prescribed I went on vacation with my sisters as we do annually. However, it wasn’t long before I became very ill. Between the three of us, I was the only driver, but by the grace of God I was able to drive the 3.5 hours home before collapsing in a heap on my bed.
Second Medication Bombs Out
After that ordeal the doctor prescribed a “maintenance” level of medication since I had an adverse reaction to the first medication. Shortly after taking the new medication, I began having an anxiety attack, hallucinations and trouble breathing. I had earned a trip to the hospital.
However, during the two days and one night in the hospital, I saw God move in a way I’ve never experienced before.
The Backdrop – Eighteen Months Ago
I would like to back up a moment to give more insight to my story. As I recall it was almost eighteen months ago when I was referred to an oncologist because of some abnormality in my blood. The oncologist told me I had a “very high protein count in my white blood cells”. If the count stayed at a high level it would more than likely become cancer.
Upon receiving this news, I went home and sounded the alarm to my prayer partners. I asked them to pray for healing, for the eradication of whatever was causing my count to rise. It goes without saying for those that know me that I believed God as always and accepted by faith His hand of healing for my condition.
I returned for my six- and twelve-month check-ups. The oncologist gave me a clean bill of health each time. God had answered my prayer!
So now fast forward to today, approximately four months later, I’m in the hospital with a dangerously high white blood cell count. I’m confused.
Healed or Not?
There were a flurry of attendants prodding and probing to discover what caused my illness. The doctor told me the first night that the urinary tract infection was pretty much gone. So that did not contribute to my illness. However, he told me there was a greater concern. There had been a tremendous rise in my white blood cell count. Normal count should be between nine and eleven, however mine was thirty-eight.
I thought about the conversation with the oncologist some eighteen months prior and my prayer for healing.
How could this be? I am a woman of faith and I believed God had already healed me of this condition. Why was it raging again? Could there be some mistake in diagnosis?
Three other doctors came in with the same report…extremely high white blood count and I would have to remain in the hospital.
Lord, I Need an Answer
Numbed by the news, I called my adult children. While I waited for them to arrive, I prayed,
Lord I thought when we prayed for my white blood cells some time ago You healed me from that condition. So why is this a concern now? I need an answer because I believed you then for my healing. I need an answer from You.
As the day wore on, a different doctor I hadn’t seen before came in with this strange look on her face and said,
“I am going to order another blood test. I want to personally see the trend of these white blood cells.”
She leaves and in walks the attendants to take yet more blood. It wasn’t too long after that both my children arrive.
Good News
Purposely avoiding a discussion of what all this might mean we occupied ourselves with examining the myriad of gifts my daughter had spread all over my bed.
Finally, the new doctor returns.
“Ms. Beatrice, I have some good news for you” she says with a smile.
She proceeded to tell us that the extremely high white blood count was not related to the UTI but was caused by the medication I was on. Within a matter of twelve hours my count dropped from thirty-eight to thirteen, well within normal limits.
God has Answered
Needless to say, we began to praise the Lord right there in that hospital room.
We spoke more and discovered the persistent doctor works in New York and only works at the hospital I was at on weekends. However, she was not scheduled to work the day she came in and picked up my chart. But for some particular reason, she was prompted to come in today.
As she continued to explain my situation, her face began to brighten. This doctor’s appearance began to illuminate with the glory of God as I looked on in amazement. As I stared in awe, she said,
“You all make me feel very warm inside.”
My daughter, sensing a ‘shift in the atmosphere’ inquisitively asked,
“What is your first name?”
“My name is Janaya” she replied.
My daughter quietly googled the name. This is what she found.

Remember, I had asked God that morning for an answer. He sent me the answer literally in the person of that doctor whose name itself meant God has answered!
Knowing what I had prayed earlier we lost it. We praised God unabashedly!
The hospital is a place of worship…….seems I’m not alone.
(This is not the hospital where Ms. Beatrice was staying).
The Color of Healing
Not taken aback by our worship, as the doctor walked toward the door, she turned back, looked at my daughter and stated,
“The colors you are wearing matches the curtains in this room.”
Thinking nothing of what my daughter was wearing, she explained she decided to wear clothing that represents healing. She wore green. When I shared my story with my friend, she found this.
Green. Green color is known for its balanced healing properties. It is a restful color that symbolizes growth and renewal. It also encourages comfort and equilibrium and is particularly beneficial for the heart, lungs and circulatory system.

Wow! Talking about God answering! He reiterated His healing to me by a doctor named ‘God has answered’ and again reiterated his answer the second time through the color my daughter was wearing. In other words, God heard and healed the first time…He has already answered me. But if I needed more assurance…the scriptures states that “in the mouths of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” (2 Corinthians 13:1 KJV). So, God assured me of my healing through Dr. Janaya’s unscheduled presence and the color of my daughter’s outfit.

As she was leaving, Dr. Janaya remarked,
“We are now family. So, who’s cooking Thanksgiving dinner?”

The awesomeness of this story to me is not so much the healing; we know God heals which is quite awesome in itself. But what thrills me is that God went beyond his office as “God in the Highest” to coordinate an answer for Ms. Beatrice.

Finally, what nuggets can we glean from this story?
- If God said it or did it, believe it! Regardless of the circumstances.
- God can answer us through any means He chooses.
- Your faith will always be tested. Don’t be surprised, be unshakeable.

God is truly amazing and never stops showing another side of himself to us. Our minds are too finite to comprehend the unlimited revelation of who God is.
