The Voice in the Storm

We all have storms in our lives. Many come from without, and some come from within the ranks of the people we know best. During a tornado the experts tell us how to prepare and take cover. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But who is the expert that speaks to you during the storms of life when it is going to take more than taking cover in a bathtub or a ditch?

I want to share with you three ways God speaks to us during a storm. The most elementary way God speaks is to your storm to shut it down. As time goes on, He no longer speaks to your storm, but to you. Finally, you will reach a place in God where He will not only speak to you during your storm, but He will speak through you.

Was there ever a time when you were a child someone promised to take you to the park or take you to get ice cream but the person never showed up? Or as a teenager do you recall a time in school where you found out you were in the “in crowd” that was out? Life is filled with disappointments and disappointing people and truth be told, I sometimes am one of them. Whether invited or not Jesus has been the constant in my equation, the one person that never disappoints.

Desert to Destiny

Everyone born has a calling, a gift, a talent, a purpose. If you breached your mother’s womb and gasped your first breath of air, you were chosen to do, to be, to impact lives. The volume of lives doesn’t matter…many or few, you were chosen to grace the lives of those particular people. But what happens when nothing pans out the way you’ve mapped it? Your initial thoughts of grandeur and mission seem to have stalled over time. Is there hope? Can you rebound? I’ll answer that by looking at Moses who was chosen yet his ideals dried out in a desert place until God showed up. I will venture to draw parallels between Moses’ journey from a desert place to destiny and the journey we are yet traveling to reach our end goal. Perhaps we can extract some lessons of encouragement to push forward.

Psalm 18:32-33

³²The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.

³³He makes my feet like hinds’ feet [able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places.

Prayer

Lord make my feet like hind’s feet. Let me scale the heights of the mountainside to reach your Presence. Let the rocks and the crevices of your High Places be the footholds that give me stay as I ascend into your Glory. Let the thing that may very well take me out become my strength. O Lord make my feet like hind’s feet that when I traverse the valleys, I may be swift and sure. Make my eyes like hind’s eyes that when I go through my valley, you light up the dark places.
