Instant God – Angel in Uniform
God will do anything He wants to do to protect you and I from impending danger. The story that is shared here is a true story that happened to a friend of mine. The story is told from her perspective.
Foster Mom
By profession, I am a foster parent. I have been fostering for about thirty-three years and during this time, I have fostered youth with diagnosed behavioral problems. They come and go as circumstances dictate. Some stay a very short time while others remain for a longer term.
At times my responsibilities as a foster parent, unfortunately, require me to get my local police officer involved. Over the years I have become acquainted with the police in my town and they with me. When I call them, they say “Okay Mrs. Beatrice, who is it this time?”
A Routine Day
On one particular occasion, the youth I was fostering walked off without notice. Before I became alarmed he returned on his own. Thank God, I thought, I didn’t have to alert law enforcement.
I continued with my day, going out to do some errands, finally returning home late in the afternoon. I prepared dinner and we ate. After dinner both of us retired to our rooms for the evening.
I began preparing a lesson I was to teach soon. As I sometimes do, I fell asleep. Some hours later I was startled awake by my front doorbell piercing the night’s calm.
Man at the Door
Having lost track of time I glanced over at the clock; it was 1:00 o’clock in the morning! Who was ringing my doorbell at this time of the morning? My foster child was in the bed asleep. Who could this be?
I crept to the window and carefully pulling a curtain aside I peered down at my front door. I saw a man standing on my porch!
Panicking a little, I yelled, “Who are you and what do you want?”
He responded, “I’m from the police department and I would like to speak with about your foster child who is missing.”
Indignant, I replied, “My foster child is here in the house with me. He is in his room fast asleep.”
I was becoming more uneasy by the moment. I could see that the man was a police officer but that didn’t make any difference to me, the boy was in bed. Why would he want to talk to me about my foster child at 1 o’clock in the morning?
Approach with Caution
The officer continued, saying that my foster child had been reported missing and he needed to speak to me regarding his whereabouts. I really became suspicious then. With the most commanding voice I could muster through my growing trepidation I insisted that my foster child was safe in bed and any missing report had been closed.
After much going back and forth about coming down and opening my front door to talk to him, the officer started shaking something which sounded like keys rattling.
He said, “Open the door, I have the keys to your front door in my hand. You apparently left them hanging in your door lock. I want to hand them to you. “
With mixed feelings of fear and relief, I went down to open the door hoping what he said was true. After all, this could be some rouge officer who knows I live alone. Why, he could be shaking his keys to get me to open the door! Barely muscling through these thoughts, I cautiously open the door and looked out. Sure enough, he was holding my keys! He gently and politely handed them over to me and simply walked away.
Angel in Uniform
While closing and securing my door I thought about how this situation could have played out differently. Anyone else in the world could have found those keys and used them to enter my home. Then God only knows what would have transpired. A woman home alone with a foster child; we would have been easy victims. But God sent a police officer to my house in the wee hours of the morning about a report that I never filed. Even if he was following up on another report, why do that at one in the morning? So many questions swirling through my head as to what led that officer here.
No doubt, it had to be God. The officer never gave the impression of being bothered or aggravated with why he was there or my stubborn hesitancy to cooperate with him. His responses were always kind and gentle as if he was coaxing a frightened child. Like I said, anyone could have come to my door and used those keys and us as they wished. But God knew who to send.
God Protects
God will use anything and anyone to protect those He loves. As stated in Isaiah 43:1-3,
1 But now, this is what the Lord, your Creator says, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel,
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you [from captivity];
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
3 “For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I have given Egypt [to the Babylonians] as your ransom,
Cush (ancient Ethiopia) and Seba [its province] in exchange for you.
God sent this policeman to my home to protect us because we are precious and honored in His sight.
He Loves Us
Why does God go to the extreme to protect us?
He loves us. Our Father paid an awfully high price to ransom us back from the kingdom of Satan and transfer us into the kingdom of His dear Son Jesus Christ. When we lie down at night, He will give us peaceful sleep, we will not be afraid and our sleep will be sweet (Proverbs 3:24).
To this Angel in Uniform and to my heavenly Father, I am so grateful. God continues to be our “Jehovah-Rohi”, our Chief Shepherd and eternal Protector.

No, I don’t have any method against hackers. I do keep a copy of my blog posts on my hard drive so if something goes wrong I can replace it.
My programmer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less.
