Instant God – Seeing Eyes
God Still Performs Today
Oh, how gracious my God is! He is ever present in times of need! He is not just the God closed up between the pages of a holy book. He is not just a God that did miracles for us to pack away in moth balls. God walked among us through the prophets and Jesus Christ performing miracles to show His power thousands of years ago and He still moves among us today!
A few days ago I needed to head out to do a couple of errands…
Eyes Not Cooperating
I suffer with chronic uveitis, a severe eye disease of which the treatment has resulted in moderate glaucoma in the right eye, my good eye, and severe glaucoma in the left eye. One of my five attending ophthalmologists (each one specializes in a different part of the eye) informed me my left eye may be in the early stages of pthisis bulbi which translates to the eye is collapsing. To top this off I am constantly bothered with keratoconjunctivitis sicca, simply put, extreme dry eye. You know that really bothersome feeling that grit is in your eye and you can barely open them? Well that was my problem a few days ago as I was leaving the house. I tried relieving the irritation with artificial tears and ointment in the left eye as that one was really aggravated. But no relief! My good eye was no where near as agitated so I decided to continue with my errands.
As I began to drive the left eye became more uncomfortable. Driving further, the scratchy sensation in my good eye grew more pronounced. Struggling to keep the good eye open, it was a no-brainer for me to drive pass the highway option deciding instead to take the back roads. I kept telling myself to pull into the next big parking lot and call my husband to come get me. This wouldn’t have been my first rescue but I was wrestling with my need for independence! Each opportunity I had to pull off the road, I didn’t. I kept going. I passed a QT gas station, and then a church parking lot. I didn’t stop.
God Help Me
I began to cry out loud “God help me!” When I did that tears began to form in the right eye. No, no! I blinked those back quickly because they were clouding my vision. I drove on, tears flowing from both eyes. The grocery store was about 2 more miles. In the meantime, I passed another QT parking lot.
Whew! Finally, I made it! I sat there both eyes closed (the left was closed from the time I left the house) tears flowing. Overcome, I began to pray aloud.
God, I know at this moment there are people in this world that are praying for much harder things than I am suffering with at this moment. I made it to the grocery store Lord, but I can’t even go in and pick up what I need! My good eye is irritated as well. I can barely keep it open! There’s no one to help me. Lord I need you to remove this from me. Please touch my eyes!
With that I opened my good eye and caught a glimpse of a women exiting her car peering at me. I guess that lady saw my distress. She continued on her way. I sat there, head resting on the head rest, eyes closed.
Gone in an Instant
It was less than a minute later people! ALL irritation, all pain, all grittiness left! It was like God gave the irritation and pain an eviction notice and booted them out!. My eyes felt like there was never anything wrong…there was not a trace of discomfort! They felt great!
I began to praise God right there! I began to sing a medley of praise songs amid acclamations of gratitude.
Children of God, I wanted to share this nugget to remind you we serve an instant, ever-present God. Do I still suffer with the uveitis glaucoma dry eye condition? Yes, I do. But in spite of the diagnosis, God delivered me out of peril. When Paul the Apostle, a prisoner of Rome was ship-wrecked off the island of Melita, God showed his captors and the islanders that Paul’s God was Lord over all (Acts 28). Not only had Paul escaped death by sea, he escaped death by a venomous snake. Paul’s God was Lord over the storm, Lord over the shipwreck, Lord over the viper’s poison! Paul was still a prisoner but he was a prisoner that moved the hand of God!
You might be held captive right now by a physical condition, a financial condition, emotional, employment, or marital situations. I am here to tell you, although it may seem as if you are between a rock and a hard place, you can enjoy the peace of deliverance that God has for you. God defies the effects of your diagnosis, overrules the circumstances that surround you and lets you know He’s still in charge! No worries for we serve an Instant God! His power is alive and well!
