Desert to Destiny

Everyone born has a calling, a gift, a talent, a purpose. If you breached your mother’s womb and gasped your first breath of air, you were chosen to do, to be, to impact lives. The volume of lives doesn’t matter…many or few, you were chosen to grace the lives of those particular people. But what happens when nothing pans out the way you’ve mapped it? Your initial thoughts of grandeur and mission seem to have stalled over time. Is there hope? Can you rebound? I’ll answer that by looking at Moses who was chosen yet his ideals dried out in a desert place until God showed up. I will venture to draw parallels between Moses’ journey from a desert place to destiny and the journey we are yet traveling to reach our end goal. Perhaps we can extract some lessons of encouragement to push forward.

Focus: Prescribed Burning

Scripture: 2 Samuel 24:10-15 Living Bible

¹⁰But after he had taken the census [of his men of war], David’s conscience began to bother him, and he said to the Lord, “What I did was very wrong. Please forgive this foolish wickedness of mine.”

¹¹The next morning the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, who was David’s contact with God.

The Lord said to Gad, ¹²“Tell David that I will give him three choices.”

¹³So Gad came to David and asked him, “Will you choose seven years of famine across the land, or to flee for three months before your enemies, or to submit to three days of plague? Think this over and let me know what answer to give to God.”

¹⁴“This is a hard decision,” David replied, “but it is better to fall into the hand of the Lord (for his mercy is great) than into the hands of men.”

¹⁵So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel that morning, and it lasted for three days; and seventy thousand men died throughout the nation.

Morning Glories

The early mornings are like no other time of the day! The light of day having not yet broken through the crevices of the curtains, I take a moment to breathe deeply and smile at the cascading peace I feel within. I covet these moments. It is when everyone else is asleep and I can meditate on a word or a thought that God has dropped in my heart. My Father, what do you want me to know? What do you want me to share? ..and He speaks in His own way. I hold His truths to be self-evident as He gives me fresh insight on….

Dream! Come Forth! is directed to those who once had a dream and have since abandoned it. Life doesn’t always conform to our hopes and dreams. Although some time has past and you have been diverted to other things, that doesn’t mean your dream is lost. There is hope, and where there is hope, there is life!

First impressions? What comes to mind when you look at the picture of this tree? Pitiful? What was she thinking?

When Hope Lives

I’d like to introduce Lazarus. Yes, I named my tree. Two weeks ago he came to me beautiful, leaves bursting on every branch, and standing tall and proud. Finally, I had gotten to a place where I could landscape my front yard to my liking. I wasn’t too specific about many of the plants chosen for the landscape except one. I wanted a Japanese Maple tree. Japanese Maples transport me back to the years spent in Connecticut. The deep, scarlet leaves amid an array of brilliant orange and yellow foliage ring Fall in New England. I made such particulars about the tree that my handyman was careful to select the most perfect specimen.
