What I Want to See
Most everyone has some sort of calamity they have to deal with on a daily basis. My senses perk up when I read of someone whose ambitions surpassed their calamity to live a fulfilled, refreshing life. Two of my favorite people who have achieved this very thing are Nick Vujicic and Marcos Santos. See their stories in the sidebar section under Ordinary People Doing the Extraordinary.
I am not in a class with these men by no means but I’ve struggled with retaining my vision since I was thirty-eight years old. In one moment of struggle as I dangled between sight and blindness in anguish at losing the beauty of what my eyes beheld daily, I was moved to write What I Want to See. Thank God, He’s brought me back from that place and I did not lose vision completely. I wanted to share this with you because wherever you are in life, enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. See the beauty, feel the beauty, be the beauty. Looks fade, but memories don’t and the impression you leave is stronger than the one life has dealt you.
What I Want to See
I want to see…
Blue skies filled with white puffs of frazzled cotton.
Monumental trees waving hello to a motioning sky.
Rocky dirt paths that wind their way to forever.
Water skipping from ledge to ledge as it roller coasters its way to the bottom.
Children’s laughter on a summer day of fun. A silly grin on an ice cream ladened face. A dried tear when an ‘oops’ is kissed away.
An exquisite sunset of nameless hues that crescendo on the horizon.
Fall leaves colored by a northern chill. A first snow contouring everything exposed with its light, fluffy exaggerations.
To see is not merely casual observation but rather breathing in depth of life through the portals of your eyes and being surprised by its treasures.
If I can see these things in absence of tangible evidence, then I can see. Then I am whole and complete looking forward, seeing, feeling, touching, tasting life, being.
Then I CAN see.
